Racing kart

The "racing kart", which purely pursues the basic performance of a racing machine that "runs, turns, and stops," is a motor sport where you can enjoy driving techniques and the driver can fully experience speed from a position just above the ground.

The charm of racing karts

"Kart sports" is a motor sport that is relatively easy to get started and has a deep depth, and is widely popular from children to adults. In the genealogy of the formula category that connects F1, F2, SF, F3, etc., which is the highest peak in the motor sports world, many top F1 drivers are born from Kurt graduates, which also shows the charm of Kurt. I am.

The population of carts in Japan is increasing every year, and the number of registered licenses of the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) in 1997 reached about 10,000.

Cart type

Go-kart

The "go-kart" is equipped with a speed limiter to control the maximum speed and is safe for children. It is a popular vehicle in amusement parks, leisure lands, theme parks, etc.

Sports cart

The chassis of the racing kart is equipped with a low-power engine such as a general-purpose 4-stroke (generator / scooter). Anyone can enjoy it easily, and it is often used for rental carts such as circuits. I am using tires with low grip.

Racing kart

Based on a frame made by bending or welding an iron pipe, the minimum necessary parts such as a dedicated engine (air-cooled and water-cooled 2-stroke with a displacement of 100cc to 125cc), seat steering and tires are added to it. Mounting. The big difference between sports karts and racing karts is the engine and tires. The engine of the racing kart is made only for the racing kart, and the tires are slick tires with high grip of the racing compound.

Beginner

For amateurs, Yamaha KT100S, also known as KT. Even the first person can enjoy the cart with the standard engine with confidence. "Engine_Yamaha KT100SD / SC / SEC" "Tire_SLJ and SL07"

Intermediate

If you get used to KT and get tired of its power, we recommend the 125cc engine with cell. Even women can rest assured that the engine can be started by pressing a switch. Water cooling also reduces maintenance costs, which makes Sunday Carter happy. Many people start carting around here.

"Engine_PRD-RK125A / ROTAX-MAX125F / VORTEX-ROK125 / IAME-X30 etc" "Tire_SL07 / Semi-high grip"

Advanced

Carter's longing! Tuning machine (KF class). The custom-made water-cooled reed valve engine polished by the tuner demonstrates about 30PS of power, which is almost double that of KT. If you step on the accelerator inadvertently, the machine will fly in the wrong direction. In addition, the tires are a high-grip compound that produces centrifugal force that makes the neck flutter. A machine like F1 in the cart world. Races are held at all-Japan championships. "Engine_Reed valve 125cc water cooling (tunable)" "Tire_High grip tire"

Tire type

SLJ

Slick tires that comply with the standards established for junior classes. The absolute grip is not so high, but it has outstanding durability, and the start is smooth and easy to control.

pic_t_02.gif

SL17 / SL06 / SL09

Originally called SL86, the tires located above SL83 were made into a new standard in 2002. The tire size has also been increased to improve grip. From 2017, Bridgestone introduced SL17 tires, which is an evolution of SL07.

pic_t_03.gif

SL94 / W2 / SL03

General rain tires used in closed races. Among the control tires, it is the only rain tire and is designated in many races. The code for Dunlop is W2, for Bridgestone is SL94, and for the latecomer manufacturer Yokohama Tire is SL03.

ブルリボン

CIK official high grip

Tires that emphasize grip performance rather than durability. Control tires can be used for 2 to 3 races without changing tires, while high-grip tires can be used for 1 race. Used in all-Japan championships in Japan, it produces powerful cornering G that exceeds 3G.

Types of racing karts

Sprint cart

Cart using direct engine

As the name suggests, direct is a method that directly connects engine power to rear-wheel drive, and you can expect powerful driving without delay in accelerator operation. However, "push start" is required to start the engine, and if the cart stops, the engine will also stop. It is not suitable for beginners because every time you stop on the course due to a spin etc., you have to push it. Currently, only KT SS class and Super SS class are available.

Water-cooled engine

Carts with a water-cooled engine are equipped with a radiator. The superheated cooling water is air-cooled by the radiator and used again to cool the engine. The cooling medium uses water without antifreeze. This is to dislike oil. Classes such as ROTAX MAX, IAME X30, OK.

Air-cooled engine

Carts equipped with an air-cooled engine feature a bellows-shaped cooling fin attached to the cylinder head of the engine. This is a device to increase the area that receives the running wind.

Classes such as YAMAHA KT100SD, SEC, and IAME Super Lead.

Cart with starter

Cart with starter (with starter motor)

A cart that uses a battery-powered starter to start the engine. The biggest feature is that the push start like the conventional sprint cart is unnecessary and the engine can be started easily by pushing the starter switch with one push, and it is also handled by beginners and women and elderly people who are worried about their physical strength. It's easy. The small battery that powers the car is installed on the back of the seat or on the frame beside the seat. The starter consists of a start switch used when starting the engine and a kill switch that stops the engine, and is installed around the steering wheel and engine mount. It is the current mainstream.

Engine with clutch

The engine itself is equipped with a clutch, and the engine can be started by pressing the switch on the starter attached to the steering wheel.

Mission cart

Circuit cart

Mission cart

It is a cart loaded with a 6-speed engine that was diverted from a motocross motorcycle. There are 80cc and 125cc ones. Driving while shifting is packed with unique fun.

In the highest category of KZ, it is equipped with a specially designed engine and is said to be the closest to F1 in racing karts, and is also used for driver training during the off-season.

VORETX ROK SHIFTER class etc.

Circuit cart

A kart for racing on a vast circuit for car racing. It features a large cowl with high safety. Some have a derailleur and some do not.

Kids & Junior Cart

Models called kids carts and junior carts are carts designed specifically for the small bodies of children. Although the target age is wide, from 4 to 15 years old, it is categorized according to age and skill.

Kids & Junior Cart

Kids (4-8 years old)

It is a cart that can be used by kindergarten children over 4 years old. The engine is a general-purpose engine with a displacement of 30 to 50cc.

Commer (6-12 years old)

For children 6-10 years old. The engine is an engine manufactured by Commer, Italy, with a displacement of 60 / 80cc.

Cutted (2nd grade ~)

This class is for elementary school students who use a cart using Yamaha engine, KT100SEC.

Junior (12 to 15 years old)

This category is mainly for junior high school students, and the specifications of the cart are almost the same as those for adults.

There are ROTAX Junior MAX class, YAMAHA SS class, IAME X30 class and so on.

Cart structure

スーパーチップス(カートの構造)

1. Engine

The mainstream is a two-stroke single-cylinder engine, which does not have a transmission. Water-cooled engines are also used in advanced categories such as the All Japan Championships.

2. Intake box

A resin box for reducing intake noise, also known as an intake silencer. It is said that it may affect the characteristics of the engine, and various types such as the shape and the position of the intake port are on sale.

3. Tires & Wheels

The tire uses a tubeless tire with an inner diameter of 5 inches. According to the rules, only bias tires are available in the cart. There are slick tires without grooves on the tread surface and rain tires with grooves for drainage.

4. Sheet

Most of the standard equipment is FRP clear sheet. Some aftermarket parts are made of carbon. Since it does not have a seat belt, it has a deep bucket shape that wraps around the driver.

5. Bearing

Supports the rear shaft for smooth rotation.

6. Steering wheel

Since the steering wheel of the cart is a direct connection type that does not use gears, there is almost no play, and the direction of the tires changes as much as the steering is turned. That is one of the factors that creates the direct feeling of the cart. Also, since it does not have a power assist function, the steering becomes very heavy. The mainstream method is the Ackermann method, which creates a difference between the inner and outer wheels by forcibly changing the vehicle height by changing the left and right turning angles when the steering wheel is turned.

7. Accelerator pedal

A pedal that connects to the accelerator wire and adjusts the throttle opening of the carburetor.

8. Floor panel

Its main role is to store the feet, but it is also an important part that controls the rigidity of the chassis depending on the material and shape. The mainstream is made of aluminum, but carbon and stepped models are also sold as aftermarket parts.

9. Knuckle

Recently, a reinforced knuckle with a thicker base has also appeared to increase rigidity. The Elliott type, which is connected to the frame and has a "U" shape on the frame side, is the current mainstream. On the contrary, the one with a "U" shape on the knuckle side is called an inverted Elliott type.

10. Front spoiler

Parts that are attached to the front bumper to soften the impact in the event of a collision. The rules were changed in 2003, and if the size is within the regulation, the shape is free, and each company is producing various shapes.

11. Brake pedal

A pedal that controls the brakes, which are very important for running the cart fast, such as decelerating, stopping, and moving the load of the cart.

12. Front panel

A panel that doubles as a bib plate that is installed in front of the steering wheel.

13. Fuel tank

The fuel tank is placed under the steering post. The tank capacity is 8 to 10L. In international races, both fuel and oil are distributed and stored, so many tanks are easy to remove.

14. Side box

A resin box that is attached to the side bumper to prevent side impacts and at the same time prevent tires from riding on. As with the front cowl, the shape has become free due to the rule change, so there are models of various sizes. Since it has a large surface area among the parts of the cart, it is often dressed up with stickers.

15. Rear bumper

Circuit carts, which are responsible for alleviating the impact of a rear-end collision, are required to install a large bumper to prevent tires from riding on them.

16. Chamber / muffler

An important part that controls not only exhaust and muffling but also engine output characteristics. Genuine products are specified in the stock class, but many chambers are sold for tuning.
